Front of House Staff

This is a Union (Unite Here Local 17) position.

The Front of House staff oversees the cocktail room experience for the BJWC distillery. As one of the faces of the business, it is essential that Front of House staff embody all of the BJWC core values. Staff should be enthusiastic, outgoing, engaging, and have attention to detail.

Other duties are as follows:

  • Execute the signature Brother Justus American Single Malt Whiskey service and tasting program

  • Execute an exceptional hospitality experience in the cocktail room

  • Execute consistently high level of service

  • Accurately maintaining sales in a computerized system

  • Maintain clean, tidy, beautiful, and safe physical plant and cocktail room premises

    CORE DUTIES

    • Execute an exceptional hospitality experience in the cocktail room

    • Execute consistently high level of service

    • Accurately maintaining sales in a computerized system

    • Maintain clean, tidy, beautiful, and safe physical plant and cocktail room premises

    POSITION SPECIFICS

    Greets customers and takes food and/or beverage order; provides information about products and looks for opportunity to discuss our featured items

    Follows recipes and/or product directions for mixing beverages

    Collects payments and operates cash registers for drinks and/or food serve following company-established cash handling policies and procedures for all transactions; secures all monies at the end of each shift

    Follows all BJWC SOPs for customer service, adult beverage, and cash handling policies and procedures

    Ensures a clean, sanitized and well-stocked bar

    Adheres to all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ bartending and/or restaurant experience; fine dining experience is a plus;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to perform multiple functions under pressure  

    • Passion for brand, product, and story  

    • Highly organized, detail-attentive, and professional

    • Communicates effectively to team and leadership

    • Be able to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends and increased work schedules

    • Maintain a positive, pleasant attitude every shift

    • Must be able to stand or walk for a shift

    • Must be willing to perform other duties assigned as needed

    Essential Physical Functions

    • Enters and locates information on computer and equipment

    • Must be able to stand or walk for of a shift

    • Must be able to work at approximately 36” table/bar and reach 36”

    • Ability to lift weight in excess of 40 lbs

    • Ability to carry weight in excess of 40 lbs

    • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time

    • Ability to pick up and transport production supplies and certain equipment

Bar Manager

Reports to Operations Manager.

The Bar Manager oversees the cocktail room experience for the BJWC distillery and is responsible for the overall management of the staff.     POSITION SPECIFICS

    • Create and manage a creative and innovative cocktail menu, selecting and sourcing quality ingredients that complement our growing line of whiskeys and other products.

    • Train and mentor staff on the art of visitor led hospitality focused experience with the BJWC spirits as well as creative craft cocktails, high service standards, Brother Justus product knowledge, and creating a memorable experience for the visitor.

    • Maintain a high standard of service and visitor experience that is befitting of a luxury branded whiskey company.

    • Manage inventory, ordering, and ensuring enough product is accessible for cocktails and off sale.

    • Participate in Quality Assurance to maintain excellent and consistent American Single Malt Whiskey

    • Oversee staff scheduling, monitor timecards, and coordinate with payroll.

    • Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the Sanctuary, Chapter Room, Bar, and Wet room.

    • Encourage diversity across race, gender, age, culture, sexual orientation, and ability among staff and visitors.

    • Has a good understanding of responsible alcohol service and workplace safety standards.

    • Greet visitors and take food and/or beverage orders; creatively and genuinely educate visitors about products and seek out opportunities to discuss our featured items.

    • Follow recipes and/or product directions for mixing beverages.

    • Collect payments and operate POS system for drinks and/or food served following company established cash handling policies and procedures for all transactions; secure all monies at the end of each shift.

    • Follow all BJWC SOPs for visitor engagement and customer service, adult beverage and cash handling policies and procedures.

    • Maintain a clean, sanitized and well stocked bar.

    • Adhere to all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience managing a luxury craft cocktail bar/hotel/restaurant and/or operations management or relevant experience;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Exceptional customer service skill and focus on hospitality and visitor experience

    • Proven ability to create and manage creative cocktail menus

    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

    • Familiarity with taking inventory and Toast/Tock software

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays

    • Passion for mixology and staying up-to-date with industry trends and techniques
