Brother Justus Safety Guidelines
and Acknowledgment Form

A safe environment is a right we all owe to each other! All guests have a responsibility to ensure safety. These guidelines are intended to identify some of the hazards to which you could be exposed at the distillery, and ways to protect against exposure and reduce risk. They include best practices and rules that all should adhere to.

Safety Guidelines

  • No horseplay, running, or inebriation.

  • Avoid touching or leaning on any items, especially equipment, pallets and barrels.

  • Be aware of liquid spills and alert Brother Justus staff to any spills on the floor.

  • Limited Access Areas
The production area is at its most dangerous during operating hours of 6am-6pm. Non-production staff and guests should refrain from walking through active areas without checking for safety. Production staff have additional training and supervision to ensure hazard awareness and are a vital resource to safety.

  • Avoid Distractions
Being in the Production space requires focus and awareness levels that can be impeded by distractions such as cell phones or earbuds. Limiting access to those areas helps ensure production team and guest safety.

  • Make Your Presence Known
All guests should make their presence known to a production member upon entering any active production areas. This is critical to avoiding heavy machinery, chemical, and hot water accidents.

Hazard Identification

  • Trip and Slip
    a. Trip hazards exist in all areas and can be avoided by not moving quickly and being aware of your surroundings.
    b. Slip hazards exist primarily on the Wet Floor area. You should assume that some amount of water is present on the floor.

  • Falling Objects
    a. Falling object hazards exist everywhere on the production floor, besides the Chapter Room. The risk of these hazards are greatest in the back warehouse and barrel warehouse, but you should exercise caution anywhere there are pallets stacked, tall equipment, and overhead process piping or elevated equipment.

  • PPE/Attire
Closed toe shoes are required – this is for your safety, as you will be on a very active distillery production floor.
Proper clothing made of material that offers protection against liquids and heat is recommended, but not required. Recommended materials include denim, canvas, and polyester.
