Saved By The Bell
School’s almost back in session—which means parents everywhere are counting down to that first glorious school bell. Until then, we’ve got another way to be Saved By The Bell: with a cocktail in hand (maybe even while watching reruns of the beloved ‘90s tv show).
This bright, seasonal sip makes the most of what’s growing right now. Yellow bell pepper and dill bring garden-fresh flavor, while lime juice and maple syrup balance things out with a little zing and sweetness. At the heart of it all is our Silver American Whiskey, infused with dill for an extra layer of fresh, savory character.
So whether you’re savoring the last few weeks of summer or simply dreaming of the moment the kids are back in class, consider this your official excuse to clock out, pour one, and get Saved By The Bell.
How to Make It
Ingredients
2 oz dill-infused Brother Justus Silver American Whiskey
3/4 oz yellow bell pepper juice*
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz real maple syrup (no artificial additives)
6-8 mint leaves
More mint for garnish
First, prepare the bell pepper juice:
Cut 3 whole yellow bell peppers into strips; remove the core, whites, seeds, and stem.
Add bell peppers and 3 tablespoons of water to a blender or food processor, and blend until incorporated.
Shake the blender periodically to help it blend, and make sure not to overwhelm it with too many peppers at once.
Strain blended mixture through a mesh sieve, coffee filter, or strainer.
Date and store up to 48 hours in the refrigerator. Contents may settle, so give it a shake before mixing up your cocktails.
To Infuse the Whiskey:
Add 4 teaspoons of dried dill to a 750ml bottle of Silver Whiskey. Leave for 20 minutes for ample flavor deposit. If you want it to be heavier on the dill flavor, leaving it longer will make the flavor more concentrated. Strain out the dried dill before adding to the cocktail.
To Make the Cocktail:
Add whiskey, bell pepper juice, lime juice, and maple syrup to a shaking tin with ice. Bruise 6-8 mint leaves by smacking them between your hands and add to the shaking tin. Shake ingredients together until well incorporated and chilled.
Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a chilled glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with extra mint to enhance the aroma and enjoy.
*Why use yellow bell pepper, instead of red, orange, or green?
Yellow bell pepper is the happy medium between the more herbaceous green pepper and the sweeter red and orange peppers. Nicely in the middle, its flavor profile helps balance the maple syrup sweetness with the tang of the lime juice and herbaceous profile of the dill-infused Silver Whiskey.
