The Secret’s in the Single Malt
Where Heritage Meets Innovation
When you do something well, it’s best to lean in—and we did just that with American Single Malt Whiskey. What does that mean? In the whiskey-making process, you can distill your whiskey in one of two ways: single malt or blended malt. A single malt whiskey refers to a whiskey that is made from a single distillery. Conversely, a blended whiskey is made from multiple distilleries.
With the single malt process, we’re able to govern every single step in the whiskey-making process, making sure our finished product is the purest whiskey possible, with a competitive taste advantage that can’t be ignored.
We distill our whiskey from a literal "single malt" – 100% pale ale malted barley and no other grains – specially fermented and selectively distilled to produce forest of fruit, spice, flowers, and herbs, layered upon grain and oak. Taste one sip, and you’ll understand why we chose this path.
American Single Malt Whiskey
Our American Single Malt Whiskey is an instant classic, full stop. Aged for less than a year in custom white oak barrels made from the world’s coldest oak™, it adopts an instant richness that makes for an incredibly smooth experience. That richness comes from a barrel that has endured four independently harsh seasons, from bitterly cold winters to stiflingly hot summers, contrasted by short and sweet growing seasons. This makes for a wood so perfectly seasoned and filled with character, it can only yield the smoothest whiskey pour possible. We hold a deep reverence for our American whiskey mainstay and equally so for the land from which it was born.
Single Malt Silver Whiskey
The purest water translates into the purest pour. Thanks to the Mississippi Headwaters, our Single Malt Silver Whiskey puts that element center stage. We took a risk developing our Silver Whiskey; it’s the first of its kind, but we’ve never been known to shy away from invention. Risk-taking innovation is the hallmark of our brand and our Silver Whiskey not only showcases our ingenuity but simultaneously celebrates our homeland.
Cold-Peated® Whiskey
Minnesota is home to incredibly lush peat bogs in regions carved, shaped, and formed by glaciers moving southward thousands of years ago. From these bogs, we harvest peat that is used in our proprietary distilling process, the Aitkin County Process®. Instead of burning peat as tradition has it, we’ve opted to preserve the botanical flavors, yielding a deep and earthy whiskey that challenges your senses in a most alluring manner.
Limited Editions
Some whiskey are made to be enjoyed over and over; others are made to capture a fleeting moment – the rare sips, experimental flavors, and unforgettable casks. Our Limited Editions are just that: small-batch releases that let us push the boundaries of what whiskey can be. Each limited release is a love letter to our creativity and level of craftsmanship, made for the curious, the collectors, and anyone who wants a sip of something truly one of a kind.
Among these are our Founder’s Reserve releases – bottled at barrel-proof to showcase flavors that are highly concentrated and deeply expressive, varying from year to year even with the same ingredients. Our first release – a Double Gold Medalist and Best in Class finalist at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition – delivers a symphony of warm spice, orchard fruit, and an elegant finish, reminiscent of the cherry at the end of your Manhattan. Our second release goes even further, bringing the bold notes of a high-proof Old Fashioned to the forefront, without any additives or flavoring.
Regardless of which Brother Justus Whiskey variety you select (or if you opt for “D, all of the above”), you’re going to experience something special. The beauty is in the details, and by keeping the details of our Minnesota origin top of mind in our whiskey-making process, we create a product with a cutting edge impossible to beat.
