For this edition of Whiskey Snobs, we're featuring one of Minnesota's most distinctive distilleries. Brother Justus Whiskey—Minnesota's Premier American Single Malt. Founded by Phil Steger, Brother Justus honors the real-life bootlegging monk whose copper stills lifted families out of poverty during Prohibition and made Minnesota whiskey world-famous. We're thrilled to welcome Phil back to Picnic and bring this fascinating history to life.

What sets Brother Justus apart? Their unwavering commitment to place. Minnesota is the only spot where three distinctive biomes converge perfectly for whiskey-making: limestone-filtered waters of the Mississippi River, barley from the nutrient-rich Great Plains, barrels from the world's coldest oak, and ancient peat from boreal bogs richer than Scotland and Ireland combined. Located just across the river in Northeast Minneapolis, Brother Justus creates award-winning American Single Malt using 100% malted barley, temperature controlled for slow maturation, and natural Minnesota peat. No fake flavors. No shortcuts.

We'll explore their range paired with creative dishes from Chefs Andrew Garner and Will Gibson.
